Living In Brisbane And Queensland

Getting Around

Brisbane has a comprehensive public transport network in place combining train, bus and ferries. The Pacific Motorway carries the heavy traffic between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Modern, efficient bus ways and rail links make getting around Brisbane and its surrounds easy and affordable.

Buses

Brisbane’s buses are yellow and green, except for the City Circle bus which yellow and blue. They operate in and around the city and its suburbs.

If you just want to travel around the centre hop on the City Circle Bus (number 333), which travels clockwise along George, Brisbane, Wharf, Eagle, Mary, Albert and Alice Streets during the daytime on weekdays. It’s a good way to see the sights and get your bearings.

Ferries

The City Cat ferry operates a service along and across the Brisbane River with numerous stops at all key destinations. A one-way trip is currently $1.20 and ferries run every 10-15 minutes from dawn until after 11pm Monday to Saturday, with shorter hours on Sunday.

Trains

Citytrain is Brisbane’s suburban rail provider running from the city centre out in all directions including Gympie and the Gold Coast. It is an easy and efficient way to get around without any worry. Trains run frequently to all areas, providing passengers with air-conditioned comfort.

Taxis

Yellow Cabs (13 19 24) and Black and White Cabs (13 10 08) are the two officially recognised services for Brisbane and surrounding areas.

A Guide To Brisbane’s Suburbs

Brisbane has preserved and developed ‘village areas’, each possessing its own unique character. Leafy, hilly, suburbs surround the inner city, metropolitan Brisbane.
