Renting A Home In Sydney’s Suburbs

An Overview

Since the 2000 Sydney Olympics the property market has boomed in NSW and there is an enormous range of highly desirable homes within the city and surrounding areas. There has been a noticeable increase in development, and both homeowners and property developers have been very savvy in recognising the profitability of the rental market. This led to the market being flooded with high quality refurbished houses and apartments. However, there is a constant demand for decent rental properties of which there are many to be found. Of course these costs do vary enormously from to suburb. As the cost of living is greater in Sydney than in any other city it should be noted that rental prices also reflect this.

Costs

Properties located in and around Sydney typically cost far more than those in country areas around the State. Houses in Sydney’s top waterside suburbs, such as Mosman and Vaucluse, often fetch up to ten times more than their counterparts in the outer suburbs.

Finding Your Home

I am presuming that unless you are staying with family or are a lottery winner that you will be looking to rent a home. As you can imagine there is an enormous variety of properties available in the Sydney rental market. As in any other city, costs vary depending on location, size and condition.

Shopping For Your Sydney Home

If you are moving in and around the Sydney and Eastern Suburbs areas it is worth visiting the Supacentre at Moore Park. This is a huge retail site – a short car or bus ride from Sydney city out towards the airport – that has many of the big-name home furnishing retailers and electrical stores. Most of the shops will deliver at an additional cost if your home falls within their catchment area.

It is well worth taking a trip to 2ndsWorld. It is well established and a trip to one of their four Sydney stores can lead to massive savings on all your home appliances. The Inner West

The Inner West comprises many interesting suburbs that are close to the city and are easily accessible by bus and car, making them desirable areas to live.

Popular suburbs include: Balmain, Glebe, Newtown and Liechardt.

The Eastern Suburbs

Many of Sydney’s most fashionable places to live are located in the Eastern Suburbs. They can all be accessed from two main roads which lead directly out of Sydney’s CBD, making them very desirable due to their proximity to the city and surrounding beaches.

Popular residential areas include: Darlinghurst, Paddington, Woollahra, Surry Hills, Bondi Junction, Double Bay, Point Piper, Rose Bay and Vaucluse.

Southern Beaches

Bondi Beach

The iconic image of the bronzed lifesavers has appeared on travel shows around the world and secured Bondi’s position as the beach to be seen at. However, it is not the most beautiful of Sydney’s beaches.

Bondi’s close proximity to the city makes it a popular place to live, especially with the Brits who long to live by the sea but wish to access the CBD easily (it’s about a 25 minute bus ride into town).

Bondi has an eclectic mix of people residing there – the surf attracts many travellers and young people who mix happily with the urban professionals and the elderly who spent their lives by the beach. Many types of people enjoy the vibe that Bondi offers. There is a long parade running along the front of the beach which offers an enormous range of bars and restaurants catering to all tastes and budgets. On top of this are internet cafés, surf shops, backpackers’ hostels and hotels.
